Davenport Development Supports
Community in Troubled Times

Davenport Development Ltd has made a substantial donation of masks, computers and school lunches.

George Town, Grand Cayman: As many in the community struggle during the current healthcare crisis, Davenport Development has redoubled its efforts to support those most in need with three major donations. These are:

•   35 new laptop computers for George Town Primary School
•   1,000 meals for school children through the Kiwanis Homeschool Lunch Programme
•   7,500 KN95 masks donated to the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority

Davenport Development has a long tradition of funding programmes and charities that assist and empower the youngest, often at-risk, members of the community. At a time when many are out of work and children are out of school, the firm is striving to keep pace with the growing need.

On Friday, June 5th, Mrs Danvers, principal of George Town Primary School took delivery of 35 new laptops that students will be able to use at school and take out on loan. The developers have a long association with the school, having funded and built the performing arts centre in 2013, as well as sponsoring the Positive Intervention Programme their students attend. They therefore partnered with Alphasoft which supplied the equipment, specifying that it be destined for the George Town school.

Davenport Development has also ensured an additional 1,000 nutritious lunches will be made available to children in need through the Kiwanis Homeschool Lunch Programme.

"There are some kids in the community whose only decent meal each day is the lunch they get at school. With schools having been closed since March, those kids are now seriously at risk. This programme is a lifeline for some children and their families, and one we are only too happy to support," said Ken Thompson, director of Davenport Development.

Thanks to family connections in Malaysia, Paul Pearson, director of the firm, was also able to procure a significant number of KN95 masks - the Chinese standard for respirator masks capable of filtering out viruses. With healthcare workers around the world suffering disproportionate rates of infection, Davenport Development was pleased to be able to provide Cayman’s frontline health workers safe with this essential protective equipment.

These donations, worth over CI$61,000 in total, will help keep Caymanian children fed, schools well-equipped and healthcare workers protected.
